When the Click Happened: The Child Within Felt Seen

I was out shopping with a couple of friends and their children. As children do, they were running around with laughter and energy. Suddenly, an attendant rather curtly asked the parents to keep them “disciplined.”
What happened next stayed with me.
The mother calmly yet firmly replied,“They’re kids. I can ask them, but I cannot force them. They’re not adults.”
In that moment, something shifted within me.
It felt as though the child within who had long craved understanding rather than instruction finally felt comforted. All this time, it wasn’t correction that was needed, but compassion. Not judgment, but gentleness. Not scars, but safety.
Unknowingly, my friend gave voice to what my younger self had always needed: the freedom to be as I was.
Parenting is never easy. Mistakes are human. But mindful parenting is not about perfection; it is about awareness. And sometimes, that awareness alone is enough to help a child feel safe, seen, and whole. 🌸
What words or gestures made your inner child feel most understood?
