In our early sessions, my client often felt rushed through tasks, conversations, and even emotions. Burnout, overwhelm, and a sense of not being heard were frequent visitors. Even in therapy, she would hurry, fearing she might miss the chance to say everything.
We began introducing small pause moments just to breathe. At first, they felt uncomfortable. Wasted time, she thought.
One day, she reflected on an experience where a rough morning spiralled into a date gone wrong and even tension at a movie theatre. It made her aware of how one moment of stress could spill into the next.
Later, during a solo trip, her first things weren’t going smoothly. She felt the familiar anxiety rise. But this time, she paused. Right in the middle of her chores, she sat, closed her eyes, and took a few deep breaths.
And something shifted.
She felt calm. Steady. Present.
That trip turned out to be one of her best.
Now, she uses the 2-minute pause often before big tasks, during anxious moments, or simply when the day feels too fast. What started as a tiny breath of air has now become her anchor.
What’s one moment in your day where a pause could change everything?
